Bare Women

27 Oct

I dare you to be naked, bare, free and whole. I propose you pose naked for a photo shoot in the comforting company of a friend or loved one by December 31, 2011. You aren’t allowed to wait either; you are perfect right now because you are you in every moment. Ladies, get together and support each other!

If you can’t find someone you trust, do a self-portrait! Don’t worry about the details, if you don’t want to get totally naked, don’t. Check in with yourself and make up your mind.

Lover is going to be sharing images of beautiful women of all kinds. The first set will be from November and December 2011 submissions. We would like you to take part in your growth. If you are not comfortable displaying yourself on the site we will also be accepting a short reflective article about what it was like for you. We would ideally like to see feedback from both the photographer and subject. (See submission information at the bottom of this article.)

Body image is a central reason for sexual dissatisfaction in women. The discomfort with ourselves translates to a lack of free loose movement and rampant internal dialogue during sexual encounters.

You may have seen the Dove campaigns that have taken place. They are definitely doing the work. Dove has included a page of self-esteem stats on their site, including this one:

TORONTO, March 23, 2011 – New global research by Dove of women ages 10-64 has found a girl’s inner beauty critic moves in by the time she is 14 years old and continues to erode her self-esteem as she ages. The research suggests, however, that positive role models could help young girls cope with beauty pressures, so they can see beauty as a source of confidence, not anxiety.

Let’s be the example, to ourselves, and the girls who are becoming women.

Sharing Your Experience

Use the following questions for both people:

  1. How comfortable are you being naked? Other than bathing and changing, in what other situation are you undressed?
  2. What thoughts went through your mind while considering to do this shoot?
  3. What thoughts went through your mind while being naked for the shoot?
  4. Did you notice tension in your body? A lack of looseness in your midsection, belly, hips, shoulders etc.? Change in breathing, holding breath?
  5. Additional thoughts or observations?

Include the following:

  • names, age, gender and relationship of the parties
  • city, country
  • date

Lover needs permission to use the photo’s you send so photographer named must be included. If you are not comfortable disclosing your personal information i.e. name, gender, age etc. we will not post it.
